Animal Admissions
Intakes from Area Shelters
Most of the small animals in SARI are brought in from local shelters. These animals receive priority admission because shelters are generally already full with cats and dogs. Most small animals in shelters are at a high risk of euthanasia because of the shelter’s limited resources and sometimes lack of specialized experience with the more exotic smaller animal.

Surrendering Your Animal
Since October 2003, Small Angels has rescued over 4,000 animals or about 47 a month. We adopt out about 40 a month. Due to the high number of requests we receive from the public asking us to take their pets—far more than we’re able to assist—it’s rare that we’re able to take in animals from the public.
If you wish to surrender an animal, please think carefully through your decision and the true reason you are looking to give up an animal. We’re happy to work with you—as long as you’re willing to work with us.
Small Angels is run entirely by volunteers, often with other full-time commitments. This means we’re not always able to offer people the immediate help that they desire. We kindly ask for your patience so we can help you find the best outcome for your small animals.
NOTE: Remember that we’re a volunteer rescue with space for only a limited number of animals. If you have questions about surrendering your animal companion, please email [email protected].
