Small Angels Rescue Twilight Program

Our twilight program exists to care for foster animals that are determined to be “unadoptable.” Some of our intakes have chronic illnesses, experience behavioral difficulties, or are seniors with special needs. Rather than euthanize these animals, the animal coordinators and their foster teams will instead care for them until they pass on. Small Angels Rescue is committed to improving the lives of all the animals under our care, and that includes long-term care when appropriate. The twilight foster program is essential to our mission because we believe that all animals deserve to feel loved, safe, and comfortable, regardless of their age, temperament, or medical conditions.

As with our other foster homes, twilight foster homes receive all the essentials to set up a safe environment for the foster animal, including the appropriate habitat, food, water bottle, wheel, nesting box, hay, and treats. Twilight foster volunteers are not expected to arrange or pay for veterinary care, but they do need to be comfortable with medicating small animals, attentive to any changes in the animal’s condition, and have experience handling skittish or aggressive animals. Working with a twilight foster animal may come with challenges, but the reward is in knowing that the animal is loved and supported, and that they are receiving the best end of life care possible.
